Nature Preserve House / John McLeod Architect

Like many traditional farmhouses and cottages we see across the New England landscape, this house has a foundation visibly anchored in the earth, a wood-skinned volume supported by that foundation, an economy of form, and a central hearth. It is made of practical, local materials, put together by builders who live in the community. The house is sited, shaped, and organized with a respect for the sun, the climate, the topography, the road, and the community. And it is unapologetically of its own time [John McLeod Architect] — via ArchDaily

SS&C Nascafe Racer

In six months, this could be most famous custom Harley-Davidson in the world. It’s yet another winner built by the English workshop Shaw Speed & Custom, and this one has a very defined target: to defend SS&C’s world championship title at the AMD event in Sturgis in August. It’s called the Bell & Ross Nascafe Racer, and a couple of days ago it won the AMD Modified class at the Dublin International Motorcycle Show. The Nascafe Racer is based on a Harley-Davidson FXSTB Softail Nightrain, although you’d never guess. The motorcycle was stripped down to the last nut and bolt, and given an aggressively lowered front end and a 240mm rear tire, with huge braking rotors on both the front and rear. — via Bike EXIF

Centre for Hearing and Language / e2a

The park-like site is dominated by a bulky, authoritative old school building from the early twentieth century that has had many extensions added. The most recent extension [e2a] concentrates on a precisely set single building, which enhances the different areas of the park, without affecting its space continuum. The new building is four floors in height and provides, at an appropriate distance, a new, confident opponent towards the 19th Century main building — via ArchDaily

If you follow the classic motorcycling scene, you’ll know that the Brough Superior name has been revived by Austrian-based businessman and motorcycling enthusiast Mark Upham. These bikes are meticulous recreations of the originals, and built to the same Rolls-Royce quality standard as George Brough’s own machines. The ‘new’ engines are liter-class OHV V-twins—updated and refined versions of the J.A.P. racing engine used by George Brough in 1927.
