On this very little plot it was impossible to challenge the two high level neighbours which have respectively 6 en 9 floors because a nursery can hardly have more than 2 floors. And feeting to the neigbours would have underlined the disproportion of the statures — via ArchDaily

The project brief that inspired this work of architecture was for an artist’s field-station in Glen Nevis, Scotland, that would allow and encourage creative interaction between artists and the land and its history. The chosen site was anywhere in Glen Nevis and Malcolm Frasier Architects chose a section of land in the dense woods that overlooks the natural expanse of Glen offering a view of the landscape with the interspersion of human interaction by means of roads winding up the hills and car parks and visitor’s centers — via ArchDaily
The house [Vladimír Balda] is constructed at the periphery of a suburban village. The housing development turns gradually into an open woody landscape here. The sloping shape of the plot and its unfavourable orientation to the north were decisive factors for the house shape and its internal arrangement — via ArchDaily
Located in downtown Phoenix, the new six-story, 225,000 sqf, 110-foot tall, LEED Silver building [Ehrlich Architects] has become an integral part of the fabric of ASU’s energizing downtown campus and a harbinger of Phoenix’s redevelopment. Delivered in a design-build, fast-track method, work began on design in October 2006 and the school opened its doors in August 2008, 22 months later. School schedules and budgets were both met — via ArchDaily

Alberto Campo Baeza Architects designed the Olnick Spanu House in Garrison, New York.
The place is of profound tranquility where after a day of rain and fog an intense light reflects in the stilled mirror of the majestic Hudson River´s deep waters. A place where twilights are a thousand colors as the water breaks into a thousand reflections. A place where the air is clean and calm, and mild. One could say a place that is very close to heaven. In this impressive place, we establish a plane, a platform that underlines the landscape before us, seeking to enhance it — via CONTEMPORIST
Retro is currently all the rage among watchmakers, and everyone is busy revisiting their back catalogues in the hope of finding models in need of a lucrative revamp. In fact there are more revamped watches out there than there are revisited Hollywood TV show being adapted to the big screen. Speaking of screens, the Glasshutte Original Seventies Panorama Date manages to look very much like the screen of a retro television, and you should have no problem reading the date — via Watchuseek
Before the Robie House, Fallingwater, and the Guggenheim, Frank Lloyd Wright’s career was just beginning to take off in Oak Park, Illinois. One of the most significant projects from his early career is Unity Temple near his home and studio in Oak Park. Completed in 1908, Unity Temple was a replacement church for Unitarian Universalist Church that had burned down in 1905. The church is poised as an important work for the Modernist movement in the early 20th Century, but it was also the foundation from which the Prairie School would originate into Wright’s architectural language — via ArchDaily

Architect Martin Fenlon has sent us photos of the Bojanic House he designed in Los Angeles.
What started out as a relatively minor remodel of a modest bungalow evolved over the course of construction into a new 2,500 s.f. house, with the existing foundation and footprint as the only original elements. The Bojanics acted as owner-builders, keeping construction costs to a bare minimum. The end result was a uniquely collaborative effort; one where the design was worked out on a day-to-day basis during construction in a manner that bordered on improvisation — via CONTEMPORIST
I first saw this lovely Indian several months ago, but was unable to track down any images. Then yesterday the owner of Saltcracker

Layout can both be one of the easiest and one of the trickiest facets of web design. Sometimes a designer can bust out an amazing layout in minutes and sometimes that same designer can struggle for the better part of day with the same task.
Each project is unique and calls for a unique solution, but I’ve found it helpful to keep a few rock solid and incredibly versatile alignments in mind that I can bust out when I get stuck. The ten layouts below should be enough to get you through even the worst cases of designer’s block when you can’t figure out the best way to arrange the content on your page — via Design Shack
