Arc House / Maziar Behrooz Architecture

The Arc House, designed by, Maziar Behrooz Architecture is a private residence designed for a couple and their two big dogs.

The site is under a flight path to the local airport and close to a train track. We felt that by using an industrial building technology, an airplane hangar, we would transcend the perceived limitations of such proximities. Further, we were all seduced by the idea of a large column-less self-supporting canopy that enclosed all the public spaces of the house -cost effectively — via ArchDaily

JeanRichard Titanium Diverscope

The new JeanRichard Titanium Diverscope automatic diving watch was announced about three months ago, but was officially presented only last week at SIHH 2011 trade show.

Like the rest of the gang, the watch is presented in a cushion-shaped case with a pair of screw-in crowns at the left and right side: the former operates the internal bi-directional rotating bezel, and the latter is for winding, as well as for setting time and date.

The timepiece is, however, slightly smaller than some other JeanRichard watches that are powered by the same in-house JR1000 automatic movement — via World Watch Review

Kawasaki H1 Cafe Racer

Friend of the site David Edwards sends us these images of his Kawasaki H1 cafe racer, just dripping with 1970s swagger. He says he purchased the bike, a retired proddie-class roadracer, with the intent of going vintage racing — via Bike EXIF

An Office for Hodgdon Powder Company / el dorado

Located in Herington, Kansas the new office for Hodgdon Powder Company, designed by el dorado inc, utilizes a Quonset hut system of construction that allows an extremely functional yet dynamic space for the company’s employees. The design plays to the strengths of the pre-engineered system by focusing the major modifications to the end wall assemblies, allowing the dual-corrugated, structural panels to remain largely intact — via ArchDaily

Cartier Santos Dumont Carbon Skeleton Titanium

The French luxury jeweler keeps introducing skeletonized timepieces. The latest in the series is the new Cartier Santos Dumont Carbon Skeleton Titanium (Ref. W2020052) hand-wound watch that was officially presented last week at SIHH 2011 trade fair.

The manufacture-made caliber is so extensively skeletonized, that the gear train, as well as the mainspring barrel seem to float in thin air: a difficult task to accomplish when you have to make the watch look cool while preserving its structural rigidity– via World Watch Review

Shophouse Transformation / allzone

Shophouse was the most common building typology of Bangkok during the process of urbanization of the city in the past century. However they are getting obsoleted nowadays because of city’s the transformation. Bangkok urban fabric is, nowadays, full of not-properly-utilized shophouses in most of the prime areas.

The project, designed by allzone, is an attempt to experiment with shophouse typology’s transformation. The existing condition were two not-in-use units of shophouse in one of crowded area of Bangkok. Every floor is transformed into a working-living unit, a new typology for a small business or live-in studio, that is quite rare type in Bangkok. While the ground level is completely open for parking and plants. (The 4th and the 5th floors are finally occupied by the architects). The addition parts are the new facades on both front and back made out of the prefabricated concrete blocks – the most common and cheapest construction materials found in the market – which is also acting as a sun shading, a curtain for privacy as well as thief protection device. The facades also create ‘a breathing space’, the space between the big windows and concrete blocks, for smoking, relaxing in the outdoor, plantings as well as air condensing units and service — via ArchDaily

Abiquiu House by Anderson Anderson Architecture

Anderson Anderson Architecture designed the Abiquiu House in a small town in New Mexico.

Designed for an anthropologist and a concert pianist, retiring from Phoenix, Arizona, to this small New Mexico town on a desert site fronting the Rio Chama—not far from Georgia O’Keefe’s famous home on the bluff above this house uses several relatively standard prefabrication systems. SIPs are used for the wall panels only, while the roof and floors are constructed of prefabricated 2×4 long-span trusses. Although it was originally intended to use panels as the roof and floor structure as well, the house was switched shortly before construction to a truss system to simplify the assembly and to reduce the structural lumber splines required in the long spans of the panels — via CONTEMPORIST

Neander Motorcycle

Ever heard of Neander? Me neither, until Legend of The Motorcycle founder Jared Zaugg mentioned the German marque in a recent Bike EXIF Interview. This drop-dead gorgeous machine is a 1929 Neander P3 1, which surfaced at a Bonhams sale in the UK a couple of years ago. Ernst Neumann-Neander used a variety of engines for his motorcycles, including Villiers, JAP and Küchen—but this is one of the very rare MAG-powered models. It’s also one of the last machines to roll off the Neander production line — via Bike EXIF

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic in Rose Gold

JLC has updated the gorgeous Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic watch that offers a second time-zone functionality wrapped in a beautifully crafted rose gold case.

Judging by the photos, the Ref. Q1422421 model is just a minor face-lift of the outgoing version rather than a complete overhaul.

The watch is still powered by the same JLC Caliber 939 automatic movement and its dial layout has also remained unchanged — via World Watch Review

Lujan House / Robert Gurney Architect

In an effort to integrate living spaces with the outdoors while maintaining privacy from Burbage Lane and neighboring houses, the scheme, designed by Robert Gurney Architect, is organized around a centrally located garden. With sixteen foot high ceilings, the eastern volume contains the public living spaces. Continuous clerestory windows assist in providing an abundance of natural light into the space, allowing views to the treetops and sky while minimizing the close proximity of the adjacent houses. A twenty foot wide glass wall slides into a pocket, enhancing the relationship to the outdoors, and provides a sense of living in a garden. The two story western volume is comprised of bedrooms and a small second floor living space. A one story glass link connects the volumes and visually opens to the central garden — via ArchDaily
