Shophouse was the most common building typology of Bangkok during the process of urbanization of the city in the past century. However they are getting obsoleted nowadays because of city’s the transformation. Bangkok urban fabric is, nowadays, full of not-properly-utilized shophouses in most of the prime areas.

The project, designed by allzone, is an attempt to experiment with shophouse typology’s transformation. The existing condition were two not-in-use units of shophouse in one of crowded area of Bangkok. Every floor is transformed into a working-living unit, a new typology for a small business or live-in studio, that is quite rare type in Bangkok. While the ground level is completely open for parking and plants. (The 4th and the 5th floors are finally occupied by the architects). The addition parts are the new facades on both front and back made out of the prefabricated concrete blocks – the most common and cheapest construction materials found in the market – which is also acting as a sun shading, a curtain for privacy as well as thief protection device. The facades also create ‘a breathing space’, the space between the big windows and concrete blocks, for smoking, relaxing in the outdoor, plantings as well as air condensing units and service — via ArchDaily

Anderson Anderson Architecture designed the Abiquiu House in a small town in New Mexico.

Designed for an anthropologist and a concert pianist, retiring from Phoenix, Arizona, to this small New Mexico town on a desert site fronting the Rio Chama—not far from Georgia O’Keefe’s famous home on the bluff above this house uses several relatively standard prefabrication systems. SIPs are used for the wall panels only, while the roof and floors are constructed of prefabricated 2×4 long-span trusses. Although it was originally intended to use panels as the roof and floor structure as well, the house was switched shortly before construction to a truss system to simplify the assembly and to reduce the structural lumber splines required in the long spans of the panels — via CONTEMPORIST

Ever heard of Neander? Me neither, until Legend of The Motorcycle founder Jared Zaugg mentioned the German marque in a recent Bike EXIF Interview. This drop-dead gorgeous machine is a 1929 Neander P3 1, which surfaced at a Bonhams sale in the UK a couple of years ago. Ernst Neumann-Neander used a variety of engines for his motorcycles, including Villiers, JAP and Küchen—but this is one of the very rare MAG-powered models. In an effort to integrate living spaces with the outdoors while maintaining privacy from Burbage Lane and neighboring houses, the scheme, designed by Robert Gurney Architect, is organized around a centrally located garden. With sixteen foot high ceilings, the eastern volume contains the public living spaces. Continuous clerestory windows assist in providing an abundance of natural light into the space, allowing views to the treetops and sky while minimizing the close proximity of the adjacent houses. A twenty foot wide glass wall slides into a pocket, enhancing the relationship to the outdoors, and provides a sense of living in a garden.
