Steffano-Ducati Cafe9 / Kosman Specialties

Many custom motorcycles have a short shelf life. They’re a snapshot of a moment in time, or of a particular style. And a couple of years later, they look dated. But some bikes endure, and this is one of them. I missed the Steffano-Ducati Cafe9 first time round, back in 2007, but it still looks just as good today. And I’m not the only one that feels that way—earlier this year, the Ducati was invited to appear at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.

It’s the creation of Robert Steffano, who runs the Windsor, CA based motorcycle fabrication company Kosman Specialties. The base machine is a Ducati 999, transformed into a 21st century café racer — via Bike EXIF

Seamaster Aqua Terra Co-Axial (Golf Green) / Omega

Omega really did create this watch to celebrate its presence in the world of golf — a new Green Seamaster Aqua Terra, featuring a green Seamaster notation and minute markers around the edge of the dial. Okay, it’s a very fairly subtle modification change to a basic Seamaster Aqua Terra, but I must admit it looks pretty good. Green can be a very vibrant colour, so it is probably good that Omega used it in just a few places on the dial to achieve the desired visual effect. Omega uses orange on its Seamaster Planet Ocean watches in a similar manner — via Perpetuelle.com Watch Blog

Horinouchi House / Mizuishi Architect Atelier

It could be home to a Japanese version of Doctor Who, this unusual space [Mizuishi Architect Atelier] that strangely looks larger from the inside than an outside view would have it appear.

300 square feet can pose a construction challenge on any plot of land, but is a particularly complex puzzle on one that is shaped like a triangle.

Every building code was scoured and rule bent to breaking to create this quaint little abode, bending and twisting in response to limitations of and opportunities allowed by rules and regulations of Tokyo, Japan — via Dornob

Crap alchemist jailed for poo-into-gold experiment

A Northern Ireland man has been jailed for three months for causing £3,000 of damage to his flat after attempting to turn his own faeces into gold using an electric heater.

Paul Moran, 30, admitted arson and endangering the lives of others, the Belfast Telegraph reports. He will spend 12 months on licence upon his release.

The would-be Dumbledore apparently used an electric heater in his Enniskillen flat in his misguided attempt to turn his own crap and other waste products into a noble metal, in July last year, the BelTel reports.

However, rather than uncovering the secrets of transmutation, his experiment necessitated a visit from the fire brigade, and caused £3,000 of damage to his Housing Executive flat — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Everett woman arrested after husband attacked with saw

An Everett woman was arrested for investigation of first-degree domestic violence assault after allegedly taking a sawzall power tool to her sleeping husband’s neck.

Police could hear a man accusing his wife of attacking him when they arrived at the home in the 1600 block of Hoyt Avenue late Friday night.

It was you, it was you, he shouted. You tried to cut my head off. You’re going to jail, according to a police affidavit.

A judge kept bail at $250,000 Monday afternoon in Everett District Court.

The woman, 43, told police that she had the reciprocating saw because there was an intruder who escaped out her daughter’s window.

Police didn’t believe her account — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Mysterious Directors of Movie Anti-Piracy Group Unmasked

As previously reported, US film distributor Lightning Entertainment has been approaching Australian ISPs in an attempt to obtain the identities of individuals they say illegal shared the movie Kill The Irishman.

Of course, it’s the same old story. Threaten to sue individuals but get them to hand over cash settlements instead.

The front company carrying out this work are called Movie Rights Group but until this week the identities of the people behind this group were unknown. An article in The Age has just completely unmasked them.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, especially considering the industry’s efforts around Europe and the United States with similar schemes, the people behind Movie Rights Group (MRG) are rich pornographers — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Scientists See Promise in Vaccine for Malaria

Preliminary results from the trial of a malaria vaccine show that it protected nearly half of the children who received it from bouts of serious malaria, scientists said Tuesday.

The vaccine, known as RTS,S and made by GlaxoSmithKline, has been in development for more than 25 years, initially for the American military and now with most of its support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The clinical trial is scheduled to continue through 2014 and will include tests on more than 15,000 children, from infancy on up. Early results released at a Seattle malaria conference on Tuesday showed that three doses protected 47 percent of the 6,000 children ages 5 months to 17 months from severe malaria. (The age group was chosen because newborns have some protection from their mothers’ antibodies) — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Liberal MP spruiks Coalition on Australian Tea Party page

Liberal MP Andrew Laming has used the right-wing Australian Tea Party’s Facebook page, which features comments encouraging violence against US President Barack Obama during his tour next month, to gather feedback and promote the Coalition.

The Australian Tea Party Facebook page contains anti-Gillard, anti-Obama and anti-Left rhetoric — one poster said: Burn in hell left wingers.

Posts on the page promise a warm Tea-Party welcome when President Obama visits Australia in mid-November but protest details are being kept secret.

Comments on the page include: I encourage you to throw things at obama when he steps off the plane in australia… bottles… rocks… fruit… veggies whatever you can find [sic]

Another says please take him on safari for salt water crocodiles while several others encourage the President and Julia Gillard to go on a walkabout in the desert and never come back — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Ardnamurchan Viking boat burial discovery ‘a first’

The UK mainland’s first fully intact Viking boat burial site has been uncovered in the north-west Highlands, archaeologists have said.

The site, at Ardnamurchan, is thought to be more than 1,000 years old.

Artefacts buried alongside the Viking in his boat suggest he was a high-ranking warrior.

Archaeologist Dr Hannah Cobb said the artefacts and preservation make this one of the most important Norse graves ever excavated in Britain.

Dr Cobb, from the University of Manchester, a co-director of the project, said: This is a very exciting find.
