No doubt you’ve heard the news about Krispy Kreme going into administration in Australia.
Many people seemed surprised at the news given it was such a successful launch, which was facilitated almost entirely through PR, word of mouth and without traditional paid-for advertising. But when we look a little closer it’s pretty clear why they failed. They broke a few simple retail rules which are worth considering — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Most of the robotic arms now in use by some amputees are of limited practicality; they have only two to three degrees of freedom, allowing the user to make a single movement at a time. And they are controlled with conscious effort, meaning the user can do little else while moving the limb.
A new generation of much more sophisticated and lifelike prosthetic arms, sponsored by the Department of Defense’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), may be available within the next five to 10 years. Two different prototypes that move with the dexterity of a natural limb and can theoretically be controlled just as intuitively — with electrical signals recorded directly from the brain — are now beginning human tests — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Dating back to the 1880s, Antoni Gaudí devoted over a decade of his life to one of Barcelona’s, and the architecture world’s, most prized structures, la Sagrada Família. The cathedral has remained under construction for hundreds of years as debates concerning whether or not its current state is too far from the original vision continually spark controversy. Yet, this Sunday, as the NY Times reported, Pope Benedict XVI visited the cathedral to consecrate the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família. The visit spurred hundreds of workers to prepare the church in an effort to highlight the newest “ latest architectural and artistic features” — via ArchDaily
Today, on World Contraception Day, the Surya clinic in Patna city in the Indian state of Bihar will, as always, be full of women, their children and their travel companions, waiting to see the doctors for family planning services. The female doctors are young, many recent graduates of the medical colleges, and sometimes pairing up to counsel clients on contraceptive methods. The government of India has accredited this private clinic run by the Janani network so that women opting for birth control pills, a 10-year IUD, or a three-month injectable contraceptive pay nothing. There’s something strangely compelling about 1980s superbikes. The French have a phrase for it: jolie laide, meaning both pretty and ugly at the same time. To my eyes, Honda’s CB1100R is a classic example of this. It’s a homologation special

The lower level is a simple rectangular floor plan with a patio; an outdoor area that seems contained by the angled volume above. Large windows allow natural light to illuminate the interior, and also provide great views of the surroundings. The home was prefabricated and is clad in painted pine planks that allow it to blend in with the rural architecture of the area — via ArchDaily
