Two Lynx kittens born 5 June at Vienna’s Schönbrunn Zoo like to play all day. The kittens scramble up tree trunks and explore their naturally wooded habitat. But when they take too many chances, Mum grabs them gently by the neck and carries them out of the way — via Zoo Borns
Buttonwood Park Zoo, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, was contacted in late April by a local resident concerning a Red Fox kit. The kit’s mother had been struck by a car, leaving the juvenile an orphan. Zookeepers determined the kit was blind and could not be returned to the wild. The decision was made to raise the young fox and integrate her into the zoo’s Animal Ambassador Program — via Youtube

We went with Sharla and Chris to the Fox Village at Mt Zao!! It was the most incredible place I’ve been in my life! I highly, highly recommend this for anyone visiting Japan. However, getting there is a bit tricky! You either need to drive a car, take an expensive taxi, or catch a questionable ride on a city bus in a city southwest of Sendai called Shiroishi. The details are on the website (in Japanese). The bus costs 200 yen and doesn’t actually stop at Fox Village, so apparently you need to tell the driver to stop there AND pick you up again on the way back, lol. Good luck adventuring?! — via Youtube

Just a few days ago, a new Fennec Fox kit ventured outside of the den for the first time at Zoo Wroclaw in Poland. The kit was born some time in early June, but keepers aren’t sure exactly when, since the kit has stayed inside the den with mum, Tina, until now — via Zoo Borns
Meet Makaia, he’s one very special Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo. When he was only five weeks old, he lost his mum. He needed a nice warm pouch to grow big and strong in, so Adelaide Zoo tried something that had never been done before… a Yellow-foot Rock-wallaby was found to be his surrogate mum. Up until now this special breeding technique, known as cross-fostering
, has only been done with closely related wallaby species — via Youtube
Early versions of Hobbes were very cartoony, and things like the shape of the nose and the number and placement of stripes were not always consistent. His proportions also appear to have changed slightly over the years. Later versions were crisp, clean and very consistent in the features. I based my Hobbes doll off of pictures that appear in the later strips.
To create the pattern, I broke the doll down into separate basic shapes. After some trial and error, I had a pattern that yielded all the needed body parts that fit together to my liking.
This pattern requires creating and stuffing all of the different body parts separately, hand stitching them all in place, and then hand stitching all of the stripes in place individually.
If that wasn’t completely clear, this project requires a ton of hand stitching. You’ve been warned! — via Instructables
