R2-D2 Vespa / Morgan

Don’t underestimate that little scooter. He’s saved the rebellion more than once. Morgan, a Geekologie reader, rides this glorious Vespa:

This was done with adhesive vinyl, some meticulous cutting and a 12-pack of beer. It gets a lot of looks and thumbs up, and often times while I am sitting at a stop light someone crossing the street will pause to take notice. The rear trunk is a real vintage piece and I removed the original faded travel stickers and replaced them with various retro style Star Wars art and posters that I found on the internet.

Kuggen / Wingårdh Arkitektkontor

A cylindrical, distinctive building [Wingårdh Arkitektkontor] in the middle of the town square is an urban planning motif with roots in the Italian Renaissance. The form offers lots of floor space in relation to the amount of exposed exterior wall surface, and the upper floors project out over the lower—more on the south side than on the north, so that the building partially shades itself when the sun is high in the sky. A rotating screen shades the top floors, following the sun’s path around the building — via ArchDaily

The SayBoat / Milan Rídký

The construction of minimalist house [Milan Rídký] on the water was intended to provide a highly comfortable year-round housing for two people or to be a residence for family weekends. The houseboat is built with a clear vision which can be summarised in Corbusier’s assertion that human habitation should be a cell with a view of the stars. The floating house is full-fledged residence, providing all features that are associated with a pleasant housing — via ArchDaily

Angled Extension / Baksvan Wengerden

A single subtle visual trick turns would could be a cumbersome extension into a more natural expansion in this traditional brick Dutch home — a roof form picked up in a strategically-sliced outside wall. Sloped roofs dominate the original, which are picked up in the concrete angles found in the first-level addition by Baksvan Wengerden that creates additional living space and connection to the backyard — via Dornob

Kawasaki Z1000 / Bull Dock

This Kawasaki Z1000J is a recent Bull Dock build, but classified as a budget build by their standards. Still, the modifications are extensive. The wheels are Dynamag and have been dropped down to 17” in diameter, while the 998cc motor has been boosted to 1135cc with a Wiseco kit — via Bike EXIF

Pleasant View / Huf Haus

Luxury all the way with this six-bedroom Huf Haus in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey. Sadly, a price to match too.

This is, of course, a contemporary build, with those clever German craftsmen coming over and constructing this eco-friendly gem using exacting factory-made component parts. If I ever had the land and the money, I would probably give them a call too.

The house is known as Pleasant View (presumably because it offers that, courtesy of Richmond Park) and is everything you would expect from a Huf Haus and more besides.

£2,950,000 is the asking price, should you win the Lotto this weekend. More images on the listing — via WowHaus

Wright House historic designation could be delayed

Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio has applauded the likely $2.38 million-sale of the historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Phoenix to an anonymous buyer, saying the transaction is the first of many more steps to come in order to permanently protect the property.

However, a planned city vote on designating the property as historic is likely to moved back because of the pending sale.

In a letter to his supporters Thursday, the day after the announcement of the Wright-home’s sale, DiCiccio said the property was one of the most important treasures in Phoenix and the anonymous buyer’s intent to preserve the iconic home was fantastic news — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Moto Guzzi Le Mans / Revival Cycles

Stulberg is a pure-bred Guzzisti and usually has at least four Mandello products in his garage at any given time. But he sold his treasured 1975 T3 to pay for the Le Mans. And the original intention of a complex build evaporated when the Revival Cycles crew decided to take the bike to the Barber Vintage Motorcycle rally. This gave us about two weeks to build a custom bike that needed to run. That’s something we could never do with a client bike—we simply can’t make decisions fast enough with a client in-tow — via Bike EXIF

South House / Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Interesting property that looks like a period build at first glance. But this is actually fairly recent, a Charles Rennie Mackintosh-inspired two-bedroom property in Farr, Inverness-shire.

The house is called South House, which is set in woodland on the outskirts of the village of Farr, near Inverness City centre. It was built in 1992 to a Charles Rennie Mackintosh design, the copyright of which is owned by the Hunterian Art Gallery in Glasgow. So a classic design, but with the convenience of modern construction — via WowHaus

JPGN House / Macedo, Gomes & Sobreira

The owner of this house [Macedo, Gomes & Sobreira], at the South Lake residential district in Brasilia, had grown up on that same street. The window of his bedroom was opened to the view of the Paranoá Lake towards northwest, with the monumental zone of Brasília right at the opposite bank. He had witnessed the evolution of that landscape, and intended to keep living together with it. The house was almost fully elevated on piloti, on the edge of the height allowed by urban regulations, opening the view above the neighbours’ roofs — via ArchDaily

The Inlander / Deus

This Triumph Bonneville 900 from the west coast of the USA is nicknamed The Inlander. Over the years, it’s been subtly upgraded in all areas, from performance to looks. Most recently it’s been worked on by Deus, which explains the high quality of finish. The owner is a huge motorcycle aficionado, and the Bonneville is his favourite bike and everyday ride — via Bike EXIF

Octopus / Romain Jerome

The Romain Jerome diver’s watch, the Octopus, is named after the ocean giant that became a powerful symbol in Jules Verne’s famous novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. It has a 46mm steel case with bezel notched in stabilised rusted steel from the Titanic, 270m water resistance, automatic mechanical movement, one crown at 9 o’clock to set the watch and a second crown at 3 o’clock for the internal rotating bezel, a hand-engraved Octopus stamped on the case back, hours, minutes and seconds enhanced with blue emission Superluminova — via Perpetuelle
