Who wouldn’t want to own a nuclear bomb-proof earth station and a piece of space history?
The Jamesburg Earth Station, which transmitted some of the first images of the Apollo 11 moon landing, is on the market.
The one-of-a-kind securely fenced 160-acre property comes with a three-bedroom house, a 20,000-square-foot building, a helicopter landing pad and a 10-story satellite dish and antenna. It’s in Cachaua Valley, not far from Carmel Valley and about 20 miles southeast of Monterey, a bit off the beaten track and offbeat, period.
The unusual selling point of this picturesque property situated among rolling hills and wine vineyards: Built at the height of the nuclear arms race with the former Soviet Union, the 20,000-square-foot earth station can withstand a five-megaton nuclear blast.

Japan is road testing new traffic lights that can be seen by people who are colour-blind as well as drivers with perfect vision.
The signals have been developed by Taro Ochiai, a professor at Kyushu Sangyo University, with the first set of traffic lights installed in the southern city of Fukuoka. A second month-long test is to be started in Tokyo before the end of February

In March, the Mozambican legislature is expected to pass a bill that would revise the country’s draconian abortion law and legalise voluntary abortions in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. In doing so, Mozambique would become the ninth African country to liberalize its abortion policy in the last decade. Since 2003, 28 countries have ratified an African Union protocol supporting the right to abortion in cases of rape, incest, or high-risk pregnancies. A deranged burglar was found smeared in peanut butter and chocolate, according to police reports.
Officers in Neon, Kentucky allegedly found 22-year-old Andrew Toothman wearing only a pair of boots when they entered the Food World store at 6.00am on Tuesday morning.

A 3D printer-created lower jaw has been fitted to an 83-year-old woman’s face in what doctors say is the first operation of its kind.
The transplant was carried out in June in the Netherlands, but is only now being publicised.
The implant was made out of titanium powder — heated and fused together by a laser, one layer at a time.
Technicians say the operation’s success paves the way for the use of more 3D-printed patient-specific parts.
The surgery follows research carried out at the Biomedical Research Institute at Hasselt University in Belgium, and the implant was built by LayerWise — a specialised metal-parts manufacturer based in the same country
A prominent Conservative has broken ranks with his allies on the religious right
by declaring his support for the Government’s controversial plans to legalise gay marriage.
In an interview with The Independent, Tim Montgomerie dismissed criticism that extending equal rights to gays and lesbians would weaken marriage. He said Tories and church leaders should support gay marriage because it would save the institution, not destroy it. Marriage is probably the most important Conservative institution and excluding people from it is therefore excluding people from Conservativism to a significant extent,

Big Monopoly has learned in the past century that when they look like a little spoiled brat having a tantrum, politicians will throw taxpayer money their way to shut them up. Therefore, this is a behaviour they emulate as soon they are given a good enough excuse. It’s simply a reinforced, learned behaviour.
A boycott against Big Monopoly will not work. Any noticeable drop in profits will cause them to throw a tantrum at policy makers and complain how their profits are dropping due to piracy, and request harder enforcement of their copyright monopolies at the expense of our civil liberties and the freedom of the net.
Buying more of their products (yeah, right) will not work. Any noticeable raise in profits will cause them to commission reports to policy makers illustrating their grandiose importance to the economy as a whole, suggesting that they are the direct reason for at least several hundred per cent of the gross national product. Therefore, they will argue, they need additional protection as a national interest.

John Samuel Maxwell was sentenced to 15 years Tuesday in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for a charge of burglary of a habitation that occurred in Red River County.The case, with 6th District Judge Eric Clifford presiding, stems from an incident that occurred last February in which the defendant entered a camper trailer that was a habitation for two Red River County residents. The two residents did not know Maxwell or give him permission to enter their home. Once inside the home, Maxwell forced the homeowners from their camper and proceeded to destroy the inside of the residence.
At one point, after tearing off the refrigerator door, Maxwell stripped off his clothes and covered himself in butter. Once law enforcement officials arrived on the scene and secured the area, a standoff ensued that lasted over an hour. Maxwell finally made his escape from the residence wearing no more than a plastic bowl on his head and a single sock on his foot. Members of the Red River County Sheriff’s Office apprehended the defendant some 25 yards from the residence. According to law enforcement personneland the victims, Maxwell appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
Because of the professional response of the Red River County Sheriff’s Office, nobody on scene suffered any injuries,
said District Attorney Val Varley. Our office has been in frequent contact with the victims of this matter and they were very satisfied with the 15-year sentence. As always, our primary goal is to see that justice is done. I feel as if that goal was accomplished
