Real-Life Secret Playroom Through a Narnia-Like Wardrobe

Real-Life Secret Playroom Through a Narnia-Like Wardrobe

Sorry, lion and witch sold separately.  Still, the stage is set much like many of us imagined when we read the children’s classic as kids: a dark-painted room with wood-trimmed windows and antique wooden furniture, with a large dresser that looks strangely both foreboding and inviting.

Maple Seed Renovation specializes in custom projects, seeking the balance of excellent design, well-executed craftsmanship, and natural materials  – hence, it should come as no surprise that the hidden space fits so beautifully in its context, and could be just another vintage furnishing in this home — via Dornob

Gamble House / Greene & Greene

Gamble House / Greene & Greene

The essential nature of architecture by Greene & Greene begins with intense attention to detail and craftsmanship, as their bungalows mark the height of the American Arts and Crafts style. The brothers were inspired by the concept of total design, or gesamtkunstwerk, which was stressed in the German-designed rooms at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase International Exposition in St. Louis. When they met David and Mary Gamble, they already had developed a list of rich couples who commissioned them to design their houses, with generous budgets and relatively free reign — via ArchDaily

Facebook remains thick with malware: report

Facebook user? There’s a good chance you’ve been exposed to malware at least once in your recent travels through the popular social-networking site. According to the security firm BitDefender, which analyzed the profiles of 14,000 users, approximately 20 percent of all news feeds on Facebook contain some sort of malware — via redwolf.newsvine.com

House on the Slope / Paisajes Emergentes

House on the Slope / Paisajes Emergentes

The geometry only pretends to answer the question of how a house can be deformed by events occurring within the surrounding landscape, be they far or close to it. The operation was compatible with a particular request of the client: a clear division of interior spaces. These were finally connected through voids that separate but still permit a visual relation between them, as if they were smaller houses — via ArchDaily

Landfall Brings a Quirky New Take on the Rain Screen

Landfall Brings a Quirky New Take on the Rain Screen

Landfall is an updating of an old mid century home that makes for a sophisticated and quirky design update from the always original and quirky Bates and Masi.

The two could not be more different. Bates is a Southerner in his eighties who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright, and Masi who grew up the child of a couple of artists, was fresh out of Harvard grad school when the two got together. But they share a lighthearted approach to architecture

Moto Guzzi SP 1000

Moto Guzzi SP 1000

This lovely Moto Guzzi 1000 SP custom is the latest creation from prolific Italian custom shop Officine RossoPuro. It’s called the TTre—a reference to Guzzi’s classic T3 nomenclature and the Isle of Man TT. As an SP, this is one of the last Guzzis to use the desirable Tonti frame: it also sported a large windshield and a rather awkward lower fairing, with cutouts for the huge V-twin cylinders. Today, this makes the SP less desirable and therefore cheaper than most classic Guzzis. That’s good news for builders like Filippo Barbacane, who appreciate the underlying aesthetics of the bike — via Bike EXIF

FyF Residence / P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S

FyF Residence / P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S

FyF is located in the outskirts of Rosario [the second largest city in Argentina], approximately 300 km north of Buenos Aires. The small house of approximately 200 m2 is built in a new residential development adjacent to a traditional neighborhood. FyF can be described as a spatial and physical attempt to challenge the planar stability and flat homogeneity of the Pampas landscape in a domestic setting. The project was conceived as a monolithic solid, a monochromatic form punctuated only by subtle inflections that establish a complex physical relationship among the different spaces while maintaining a sense of identity and privacy between them — via ArchDaily

Cacheux Elephant Automatic Watch

Cacheux Elephant Automatic Watch

This is a watch that I really never thought was going to be made. It started out as a concept watch called the Galibier based upon a concept car from Bugatti with the same name. Fabien Cacheux designed it to have a perlage decorated drum case, Bugatti logo, and an interesting strap system. Less than a year later, a more practical version of the piece is being made – but in very limited quantities and it will be called the Cacheux Elephant Automatic — via A Blog to Read
