Armin Strom is for the second year in a row one of the main sponsors of the Menuhin Festival, an annual classical music event based in Gstaad, Switzlerand. Armin Strom has designed this limited edition Armin Strom Manual Fire Limited Menuhin Edition
with a specially decorated bridge to celebrate the event whose theme of Fire and Sun
is in tune with the Armin Strom elements
concept (Earth/Fire/Water/Air). Aside from the special decoration, this piece is very similar to the Armin Strom One Week Fire watch (and also Water) that I wrote about in May 2010, just without the power reserve function — via Perpetuelle.com Watch Blog

Google may have failed in its takeover attempt of Groupon last year, but it’s not giving up on the social shopping market.
The technology giant — which recently rolled out Google Offers, its own location-based daily deal service — has acquired the Dealmap, a start-up that aggregates discounts from hundreds of group-buying sites. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Dealmap team will join Google’s commerce and local initiatives group — via redwolf.newsvine.com
In order to retain the character [Caramel Architekten] of the original meadow, the ground-floor living and dining area are tied to the garden in a generous sweeping gesture. This gives the feeling of a 500-sqm living room composed of outdoor and indoor spaces. The tail end of the swoosh tapers to human scale forming smooth shallow depressions for sitting, curvilinear furniture, a pool and terrace with rounded corners — via ArchDaily

A few of the ladies have told me that they love their octopus necklace but wish they had some earrings to match! Even going through their entire collection of jewellery they still couldn’t find anything! So, being the gentleman that I am; I have made these earrings to go along with my line of octopus pendants — via Etsy

The bothy is a refurbishment and extension [Reiach and Hall Architects] of a remote cottage carried out for two artists, Roger Ackling and Martin Cook, and their families. The extension, clad in black charred timber slats, lies as a shadow behind the main house, whose accommodation has been opened up in section and plan to provide a bright, modern living space. The stone cottage is of the landscape, and rests in the landscape, with no conscious boundary or garden — via ArchDaily
Finally after a thirty year plus wait, you can quit taking those items in for repair at exclusive mechanics. Now you can repair the bay doors on your AT-AT without having to resort to pricey mechanics who charge a fortune due to high Empire taxation–although the Pull-a-Part might be a ways. Designed by TGIGreeny, the manuals appear on a series of t-shirts which include the Tie Bomber, Tie Fighter, and for those with the means, Imperial Stormship — via Neatorama
Have you ever had a DOM element that you wanted lightboxed, but didn’t want all the fanciness of all the lightbox-related plug-ins out there? Lightbox_me is for you.
Lightbox_me is an essential tool for the jQuery developer’s toolbox. Feed it a DOM element wrapped in a jQuery object and it will lightbox it for you, no muss no fuss.
By all means, Mr Nile, you go out and be as Christian as you want; I respect that entirely. But that does not give you and your supporters the right to attempt to shape a future generation of adults in your mould – that is a religious conservative.
Your views are out of step with modern society, so I would ask you to reconsider your actions and continue to allow parents and children a choice in their classrooms.
So Mr Nile, I would be delighted if you would come and actually observe our ethics classes, so that you can see first-hand how they work.
And Premier Barry O’Farrell you promised to keep ethics classes. Mr Nile is trying to make you break your promises and undermine what you stand for.
I trust you not to be manipulated by a man who on Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras gets down on his knees and prays for rain.

The most massive fruiting body of any fungus yet documented has been discovered growing on the underside of a tree in China.
The fruiting body, which is equivalent to the mushrooms produced by other fungi species, is up to 10m long, 80cm wide and weighs half a tonne.
That shatters the record held previously by a fungus growing in Kew Gardens in the UK.
The new giant fungus is thought to be at least 20 years old — via redwolf.newsvine.com

A new photovoltaic energy-conversion system developed at MIT can be powered solely by heat, generating electricity with no sunlight at all. While the principle involved is not new, a novel way of engineering the surface of a material to convert heat into precisely tuned wavelengths of light — selected to match the wavelengths that photovoltaic cells can best convert to electricity — makes the new system much more efficient than previous versions — via redwolf.newsvine.com
Joe Karaganis, from SSRC, points us to the news that there’s been yet another such study… and this one is from HADOPI, itself. Yes, the French agency put together to kick people off the internet for file sharing did a study on the nature of unauthorized file sharing, too. Not surprisingly (and consistent with every other study we’ve seen on this topic), it found that those who spend a lot of money on content… were much, much, much more likely to also get content through unauthorized means — via redwolf.newsvine.com
Sometimes it’s the relatively simple custom jobs that are the most effective. And this street tracker from London-based Spirit of The Seventies illustrates the point. Spirit III is based on a 1978 Yamaha XS650, and once again, SOTS have got the paintjob exactly right, with a high-impact retro look — via Yamaha XS650 Street Tracker
