Since the 21st century is filled with some of the most nasty, spoiled, and utterly disobedient children in history, I figured what better way for me to celebrate 2011 Winter solstice than to revive this delightful demon with a loving crocheted tribute — via Croshame
This young Sugar Glider joey was found on a road about an hour drive from Sydney’s Taronga Zoo being attacked by birds. Taronga vets discovered a small wound on her leg and Wildlife Nurse Annabelle took her home for round-the-clock-care. She’s now doing really well and has just moved into the Zoo’s Nocturnal House at Wild Australia — via ZooBorns
This amazing house was build in 2006 by Arquitectura Orgánica. A young couple with two children from Mexico City who after living in a conventional home wanted to change to one integrated to nature. The goal of this project was to make it feel like an internal inhabitant of a snail, like a mollusc moving from one chamber to another, like a symbiotic dweller of a huge fossil maternal cloister — via Beautiful Life
This blanket was lovingly crocheted in a stitch pattern that I call the thermal stitch, because the finished product looks similar to a thermal blanket.
The newest addition to our line of Baby Blanket is our Octopus Motif. He measures 8″ x 8″, and is securely sewn down to the blanket in one corner — via Etsy
This is a Christmas tree with a Cthulhu plushie on top and a bunch of tentacles stuck on branches. Because why shouldn’t Christmas be more about scaring children? — via Geekologie
Macs come bundled with a lot of software out of the box and while most of it is at least passable, much of it lacks the feature set power users need. That’s the catch with a lot of default Mac software, it’s easy, but the second you want to do something more with it, you’re out of luck. We’ve compiled a list of our favourite replacements for the usually workable, but generally boring OS X default software — via Lifehacker
What is the easiest way to find out the fonts used in a webpage? Firebug or Webkit Inspector? No, that’s too complicated. It should be just a click away.
Hence I wrote WhatFont, with which you can easily get font information about the text you are hovering on.
To embrace the new web font era, WhatFont also detects services used for serving the font. Now supports Typekit and Google Font API

This poster was created to raise awareness and funds for the cleanup of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. While drilling in the gulf creates jobs and helps serve our current energy needs, the damage done by this spill will cripple the fragile gulf coast for many years — via Jude Landry
By most accounts, owning a vintage Norton Commando can be a quixotic experience. For many, it’s the romantic ideal of a classic motorcycle — but you’re likely to need good spanner skills to keep the bike going. The alternative is to locate a Commando that has been subtly upgraded as well as restored, by someone such as Matt Rambow of Colorado Norton Works. Almost 100 bikes have rolled out of his workshop to date, and his mission is to re-build the finest Norton Commando motorcycles on the planet, to match the taste and riding styles of our individual customers

A pair of Bronx food pantries in jeopardy of closing have gotten a reprieve in the form of a large donation.
The Muslim Women’s Institute for Research and Development has been operating food pantries in Highbridge and Parkchester since 1997, but without $50,000, the organisation would have had to shutter the pantries at the end of the month.
But Monday evening, executive director Nurah Ama’tulla received a check for $100,000. She says she is grateful and relieved that thousands of families in the Bronx won’t have to go elsewhere for assistance.

Maternal instincts don’t fade away, even at age 80.
Hialeah grandmother Josefa Lopez said she felt no fear earlier this week when she used the wrath of an angry mother and her aluminum cane to fight off a gunman who beat and robbed her 61-year-old daughter.
At one point, the man fired a shot but missed the enraged octogenarian, who turns 81 on Thursday. Speaking in Spanish from the porch of her home Wednesday, yards from the scene of the incident, Lopez said she blindly charged against the gunman after seeing her daughter lying on the circular driveway, bleeding from her face.
Countdown to the Holidays. Are you ready? We can help!
I thought she was dead,
Lopez said. I yelled at [the gunman], ‘I am going to kill you, [son of a b—-]!’ I wasn’t myself. To me, she was dead.

Pepper spray is a safe, non-lethal weapon for police to use against criminals, rioters and the occasional sporting event streaker, right? Maybe not. It seems this non-deadly weapon has caused its share of deaths since 1990, and according to info gathered by OnlineCriminalJusticeDegree.com, it is classified as a chemical weapon worldwide and is banned from being used in war. The US Army has also been quoted as saying pepper spray can cause possible human fatalities

Sydneysider Darryl Mason bought a new
portable hard drive from Dick Smith only to find that it was filled with pirated movies and potentially contained malware that has ruined crucial footage for his documentary.
The retailer has since admitted that it sells second hand hard drives as new, but in this instance forgot to wipe it clean.
The Minister for Fair Trading, Anthony Roberts, said he was very concerned
with Dick Smith’s actions and that the retailer may be liable for compensation under Australian consumer laws — via redwolf.newsvine.com
The entire police force in the Mexican port of Veracruz was dissolved on Wednesday in an effort to root out corruption, and armed marines were sent in to patrol.
A state spokeswoman, Gina Dominguez, said 800 police officers and 300 administrative staff had been laid off. They can re-apply for jobs, but must meet stricter standards with officers “who are better trained and more committed and who can deliver under our current security circumstances,” she said.
Armed marines barricaded police headquarters and navy helicopters flew over the city where 35 bodies were dumped in September in one of the worst gang attacks of Mexico’s drug war.
The change was agreed on Monday by the governor of Veracruz, Javier Duarte, and the federal interior secretary Alejandro Poiré — via redwolf.newsvine.com
