A small piece I did to promote an upcoming group show at the Nucleus Gallery in LA. The show is a tribute to the horror writer, HP Lovecraft. Cthulhu is Lovecraft’s most well known character, and I thought he would be the perfect iconic image to introduce the show. A study has found that some dogs are natural gloom-mongers while others have sunnier dispositions.
“We know that people’s emotional states affect their judgments and that happy people are more likely to judge an ambiguous situation positively,” said professor Mike Mendl, an author of the study and head of animal welfare and behavior at Bristol University.

The crew of the Ocean Hunter III baited these with chicken, and then brought them up from the abyss (> 200 m) to diveable depths. The nautili clearly wanted to descend again, and we had a few minutes with each of them to take photographs.
Nautilus are ancient cephalopods, primitive relatives of squid and octopi.
