Nest Factory

This drab, windowless concrete facade does not conceal an electricity substation, data servers, or a high security detention center, Nicola Twilley writes over at GOOD. It is, instead, a living birds’ nest factory, an emerging building type that has spread across Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and even Cambodia, towering above traditional one-story structures and transforming the urban landscape. Their purpose? To foster the production of swiftlet nests, used in Chinese bird’s nest soup — via BLDGBLOG

10 Minute Dog Boots / Random Canadian

These boots are made of fleece and have a nice grip pad on the bottom and more importantly no matter how much she plays in the snow they will not come off.

The fleece allows them to dry out quickly and the basic design allows for quick putting on and taking off.

All that said each boot takes less than 10 minutes to make. You will need to make 4 in most cases and they can go on any foot. Having made several of these due to wearing out I am able to make 4 in less than 10 minutes.

No dogs were harmed in this Instructable. She does seem to be embarrassed by having the boots on though… — via instructables

Zombie Octopus

So tonight after finishing my painted Skully & Crossbones on Livestream, I still felt like creating something. I invited the people watching to come up with something cool and I would paint it. They asked for a zombie octopus wearing a Shaun of The Dead shirt. So here we go! Killamari I think they called it?!

Thanks for those of you who were hanging out, and sorry to those who couldn’t get in because it was full. I believe that will be fixed soon.

If you feel like sitting through about 2+ hours of it, you can see it here in two parts — via sirmitchell

Bat uses carnivorous plant as a toilet

A bat and a carnivorous plant in Borneo enjoy an unusual mutually beneficial relationship, according to a new paper.

The discovery, outlined in the latest Royal Society Biology Letters, represents only the second known case of a mutualistic association between a carnivorous plant and a mammal. The other case was reported in 2009, when scientists saw three tree shrews pooping into the pitchers of another carnivorous plant — via ABC Science

Embroidered Wall Tentacle

Sure, you could have an ordinary wall tentacle, but what fun is that? If you’re going to really shock your mother-in-law, it needs to be in a traditional craft, such as embroidery. Craftster user jemimah made this solid work of embroidery using a technique called stumpwork. That involves working the fabric over a wire base to form a solid object — via Neatorama
