Angry ravens might kick and chase each other, but if they are close allies they make up afterwards.

Two new species of freshwater stingray have been discovered in the Amazon rain forest.
They both look like pancakes with noses, as images of the species show. The two “pancake” species belong to the first new stingray genus found in the Amazon region in more than two decades, according to Nathan Lovejoy, a biologist at the University of Toronto in Scarborough, and Marcelo Rodrigues de Carvalho of the University of São Paolo in Brazil. — via redwolf.newsvine.com
Pregnant mares are likely to lose their foals if they are kept close to stallions, researchers have discovered.
Horse breeders, including thoroughbred breeders in the UK, often send mares to stables to be mated with stallions.
But a study reveals that, when they return, the pregnant mares engage in “promiscuous sex” with males in their home stables, in an attempt to disguise the paternity of the foal.
When this is not possible, the mares often abort the pregnancy — via redwolf.newsvine.com

As anyone who has been stung by one would know, wasps have anger management issues. The yellow jacket wasp is no different, but when it wants to bully something small, it eschews the stinger for something more creative. When a wasp comes upon a swarm of ants on food it wants, it will simply pick the pests up and fling them away: a previously undocumented way of dealing with a competitor — via redwolf.newsvine.com
Hundreds of police raided illicit markets to crack down on the lucrative trade in wild animals and rare flowers, arresting 15 traffickers across Mexico this weekend in one of the biggest swoops of its kind.
Rich in flora and fauna, Mexico is a major hub for animal trafficking where locals buy lizards, macaws and tropical fish in city markets and smugglers move endangered species across the country’s border with the United States.
In three days of raids, authorities netted 4,725 wild plants and animals — 113 different species — including 762 parrots and other types of birds and 67 reptiles — via redwolf.newsvine.com

There is some Irish dog breeder out there who is certainly heartless for abandoning this little poor little springer spaniel pup. 8-week-old Alice is as cute as a button, but was thrown out by her previous owner because she was born deaf and assumed unable to be trained.
She was picked up by a animal shelter who adopted her out to Marie Williams and Mark Morgan (who are themselves deaf), and now the couple is teaching Alice to respond to sign language commands. As you can see from this video she is responding quite well — via redwolf.newsvine.com

This hat was custom made for a fashion event in Minneapolis called The Deep
, but I enjoyed it so immensely that I decided to offer this piece for sale.
For this one I really have to let the photos talk – a sturdy top hat with tentacles spilling out of the top – what could be more eye-catchingly awesome? Embellished with real seashells and starfish, glass and real pearls, silver German glass glitter, Swarovski crystal rhinestones, silk and ribbons, and poufs of white dotted tulle to mimic seafoam.
Your hat will be created in the same manor, with the same attention to detail, in the colors of your choice.
Professional buckram and wire construction, entirely sewn by hand.
Hat is about 8-12″ tall counting the tentacle — via Etsy
