Neon Genesis Evangelion – Resurrection: Milk It For What It’s Worth Edition

Neon Genesis Evangelion – Resurrection: Director’s Cut will be released on the 16th March. This DVD will contain episodes 21-23 in both director’s cut and original broadcast versions.

Ok, question: why couldn’t they put the director’s cut versions on the original DVD releases? Isn’t this one of the great things about the DVD format, you know chocking it up with extra bits? Surely they could’ve at least released it with the box set!

GRRRRR!!!

I am guessing it’s something to do with getting permission to do so, and money, and knowing they’re are many Neon Genesis suckas out there, and blah blah blah!
Well I’m a sucka. I’ll be one of those people buying it in the next week or two along with the final and 4th Futurama series box set.

Xbox 2 Controller Loses 2 Buttons, PS3 Gains 1

Submitted to Slashdot, but you’ll probably only read it here 🙂 Gaming rumours site CVG is reporting that the the black and white buttons will be removed from the Xbox 2 controller. This would seem to support the reports of no backwards compatibility in Xbox 2. The site also has some interesting PS3 controller rumours: wireless control as standard, and a dedicated ‘trigger’ button for FPS games (in addition to the existing shoulder buttons).

ShittyRail

ShittyRail is a spoof site on CityRail and it’s pretty funny as the home page indicates:

The ShittyRail network helps you arrive fashionably late at your destination…

Googlebomb: The Passion Of Stupid Comment Spammers

Lucky me, I missed the LiveJournal comment spamming campaign to promote Mel Gibson’s dodgy vanity pic. The poorly thought out spamming campaign pissed off a lot of LiveJournal users, including reddragdiva, who has posted a googlebomb countermeasure using the same wording as the original spam:

<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079470/"> The Passion of The Christ </a>. <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079470/"> Trailers </a>. <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079470/"> Good Website </a>. <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079470/"> Protesting Gibson's Passion Lacks Moral Legitimacy </a>.

The Passion of The Christ. Trailers. Good Website. Protesting Gibson’s Passion Lacks Moral Legitimacy.

Strong Bad Arcade

A new game category has been added to the blog, so I thought it very fitting to post a link to this Strong Bad email, complete with some flash games at the end featuring everyone’s favourite sexy mexican wrestling mask clad guy — Strong Bad.

If you don’t who Strong Bad is, than your are seriously missing out and I pity you in tremendous amounts. You also need a recent flash player and to check out the rest of homestarrunner.com. There are also other games worthy of playing in the games section, such as Trogdor the Burninator!, awxome cross and population: tire.

Flash Games: Grow

Grow is a strange little Rube Goldberg-like game where you try to determine the order in which to drag various items into the middle. Each time you drag an item, the items you’ve already placed grow and interact with each other. The goal is to drag all the items in the right sequence to advance them all to their maximum levels. The maximum score is 20,000, I haven’t managed to get that far. There are quite a few possible sequences that do this, as well as some sequences that don’t reach the maximum but do produce fun effects

Slushkiller

Teresa Nielsen Hayden has a great breakdown of why author manuscripts are rejected:

  1. Author is functionally illiterate.
  2. Author has submitted some variety of literature we don’t publish: poetry, religious revelation, political rant, illustrated fanfic, etc.
  3. Author has a serious neurochemical disorder, puts all important words into capital letters, and would type out to the margins if MSWord would let him.
  4. Author is on bad terms with the Muse of Language. Parts of speech are not what they should be. Confusion-of-motion problems inadvertently generate hideous images. Words are supplanted by their similar-sounding cousins: towed the line, deep-seeded, incentiary, reeking havoc, nearly penultimate, dire straights, viscous/vicious.
  5. Author can write basic sentences, but not string them together in any way that adds up to paragraphs.
  6. Author has a moderate neurochemical disorder and can’t tell when he or she has changed the subject. This greatly facilitates composition, but is hard on comprehension.
  7. Author can write passable paragraphs, and has a sufficiently functional plot that readers would notice if you shuffled the chapters into a different order. However, the story and the manner of its telling are alike hackneyed, dull, and pointless.

(At this point, you have eliminated 60-75% of your submissions. Almost all the reading-and-thinking time will be spent on the remaining fraction.)

  1. It’s nice that the author is working on his/her problems, but the process would be better served by seeing a shrink than by writing novels.
  2. Nobody but the author is ever going to care about this dull, flaccid, underperforming book.
  3. The book has an engaging plot. Trouble is, it’s not the author’s, and everybody’s already seen that movie/read that book/collected that comic.

(You have now eliminated 95-99% of the submissions.)

  1. Someone could publish this book, but we don’t see why it should be us.
  2. Author is talented, but has written the wrong book.
  3. It’s a good book, but the house isn’t going to get behind it, so if you buy it, it’ll just get lost in the shuffle.
  4. Buy this book.

There’s also a nice stab taken at the whiny authors who submit their rejection notices to RejectionCollection.com.

Mother Accuses Music Industry of Racketeering

The music industry considers Michele Scimeca a pirate. The Morris County mom has her own term for record executives: Racketeers. In what legal experts described as a novel strategy, Scimeca is citing federal racketeering laws like the one that jailed mob boss John Gotti to counter-sue record labels that accused her in December of sharing some 1,400 copyrighted songs over the Internet

Ian McKellen on Slash

What do Gandalf and Magneto have in common? Both are played by Sir Ian McKellen. Both are figures of literature, one being a novel, the other being a comic book. And both have porn written about them. Slash fiction is a genre of stories written by fans about science fiction/fantasy characters in erotic situations. We know this because McKellen brought it up.

McKellen is like your dirty old grandpa, if your dirty old grandpa was British. He’ll make totally unexpected comments about pornography and sexuality.
