How iTunes buyers are ripped off

Australian music fans are forging foreign iTunes accounts to make big savings on their purchases.

The practice, which is a direct breach to iTunes terms and conditions, has exposed the inflated price that Australians pay to access songs off the popular music and entertainment site.

By creating an American iTunes account through the use of a US credit card or gift card, users are saving up to 80c per song and $7 per album.

The recently released Beatles box set collection can be bought with a saving of more than $A100.

Deals offered on the internet also include $US50 vouchers on sale for $US40, increasing the savings further for music buyers — via vanessa-wilson73.newsvine.com

Cthulhu Ski Hat: Stay Warm in Your Nightmare

If I saw someone coming down the street wearing this Cthulhu-inspired ski hat, I’d either think they were nuts, or they were really nuts.

It was knit by CraftyPA, and she’s also made one in red, in case the traditional green Cthulhu isn’t for you. For some reason, the red version looks more like Dr Zoidberg than Cthulhu to me, though. I always wanted to go as Zoidberg for Halloween, so maybe I’ll get that one for my costume for next year. I’ll just need some lobster claws to go with it — via Technabob

Labyrinth with Sock Puppets

Dresden Dolls singer (and Neil Gaiman inamorata) Amanda Palmer has released a cheeky low-budget reinterpretation of the 1980s cult hit Labyrinth. Palmer plays Jennifer Connelly, sock puppets replace Muppets, and Gaiman assumes David Bowie’s role as Jareth, the Goblin King — via YouTube

The music industry is changing rapidly. We discuss the upside of the Internet and the evil ways of the corporate interests with Benn Jordan, one of the first musicians to embrace BitTorrent and turn free music into a business — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Tor.com 2: Birth of a nightmare: Cthulhu Santa process

I had just finished reading some HP Lovecraft, so his flavor of awesome was still fresh in my mind. Usually when thinking about making these I go through lots of failed ideas before connecting something random to something else that could relate in shape or texture. I landed pretty quickly on Santa’s beard being similar to Cthulhu’s tentacle mouth. After that, I just needed classic scene to befoul, like a child in Santa’s lap — via Scott Brundage

‘The Raider’: British Combat Vehicle Design Based On Batmobile

British defence company BAE Systems recently unveiled a concept vehicle whose design it says was inspired by the Batmobile (The Tumbler) from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The world’s second largest defence company is thinking about using the so-called The Raider design for a small, highly agile autonomous reconnaissance and attack vehicle which can carry a variety of payloads — via redwolf.newsvine.com
