Growing up in Idaho Falls, Idaho was strange enough but I always wondered what was up with this collection of futuristic hippy homes in my neighborhood above Idaho Falls (called Rimrock Estates, in Ammon, ID). The place is overrun with starter castles today, yet these architectural anomalies built sometime in the early 80’s, presumably by the same developer continue to amaze — via New City Movement
It seems that the Hublot King Power Ayrton Senna Limited Edition watch is very close to the line where it will become a very expensive clone of the iconic Casio G-Shock family of watches.
Sporting the same design as the rest of the King Power family, the new watch overcompensates for the lack of fresh ideas with exotic materials, such as Nomex (flame resistant meta-aramid material that is widely used in making circuit boards and firefighting equipment) for a strap, as well as forged carbon fiber and perforated ceramics for the case and bezel respectively — via World Watch Review
Instead of usual gear trains, the Monaco V4 uses a set of transmission belts to transfer rotational energy from component to another. Although extremely thin, the belts are reinforced with real steel cords to increase their mileage

To make the watch even more efficient, TAG Heuer substituted traditional synthetic rubies with tiny ball bearings, thus significantly reducing friction

I was a huge Monkees fan when I was a kid, thanks mostly to MTV running weekend-long Monkee marathons back in the early 80s. (which, by the way, I recorded every episode on Betamax tapes) A few weeks ago, I needed a Monkees fix, so I downloaded a best-of album and enjoyed jamming out to their music while I worked. I also thought it would be fun to find a pattern for a Mike Nesmith-style knit green hat, but didn’t have any luck turning something up. Just yesterday, Lisa of Polka Dot Cottage posted a pattern she used to make a few Mike Nesmith-style hats for some friends. Last year, she created the hat for her son. She tweaked her choice of yarn just a bit and shares how she’s updated the project. Now if only I could knit… — via CRAFT
Elegant and refined, the Archimede Arcadia is clearly influenced by the gorgeous IWC Portuguese automatic chronographs.
As a matter of fact, the influence is so evident that some may even call the Arcadia a rip-off

One of the men responsible for the grotesque defacing of Facebook tribute pages, including that of dead Melbourne teen Cameron Lowe, is a high-ranking Ku Klux Klan member who served two years in jail for viciously beating a 16-year-old Latino boy.

I spent a chunk of my 20s living elsewhere. London, Berlin and Glasgow – genuinely hard, complex and sometimes troubled cities. They had their fair share of blokes out looking for trouble, but like most big cities you always felt safe, despite the edgy undercurrent.
You’d go out at night and there would be drunks and arguments, but the overwhelming impression was of people enjoying themselves.
Like most expats, I read emails, articles and third-hand accounts of my home city of Melbourne, which apparently had gone to the dogs — via redwolf.newsvine.com
