In this week’s CRAFT Video, Meg Allan Cole and I took a trip to Brooklyn’s She-Weld studio for a special blacksmithing lesson from Alex Himmelbaum. He showed us how to taper and decoratively curl the end of a steel rod and rivet it to a hammered backplate. It’s the burliest paper towel holder we’ve seen, forged from hot steel. Layout can both be one of the easiest and one of the trickiest facets of web design. Sometimes a designer can bust out an amazing layout in minutes and sometimes that same designer can struggle for the better part of day with the same task.
Each project is unique and calls for a unique solution, but I’ve found it helpful to keep a few rock solid and incredibly versatile alignments in mind that I can bust out when I get stuck. The ten layouts below should be enough to get you through even the worst cases of designer’s block when you can’t figure out the best way to arrange the content on your page — via Design Shack

Jesse Bassett is the owner of The GasBox, a vintage motorcycle shop in Lakewood, Ohio. It’s a new name to me, but I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more about Jesse’s company in the future: his BSA just won the Freestyle Class at the ‘Ultimate Builder’ AMD Championship affiliate event in Cleveland, and has gained a lot of interest over the past couple of weeks. The bike took two years to build and is a 1965 model—from the early days of Lightning production—although you’d be hard pressed to tell — via Bike EXIF
The project has been developed specially for popular TV show Dachniy Otvet
. The idea of the show is that for those owners of country houses and cottages, who agreed to participate in the experiment, the invited designers or architects do re-planning of a part of their cottage. The important moment is that the house owners pay nothing for reconstruction, but at the same time they can’t influence the result, so it comes always unexpected for them. The architects in their turn try to offer the most original solutions — via ArchDaily

This version of the Frederique Constant (FC) Healey is the Chronograph (Chrono), and comes with its chocolate
brown dial. It has a rose-gold plated case that is 43mm wide and a nice elegant looking case. According the FC the case is hand-polished. It has a sapphire crystal that looks to have bottom coated AR, and a rich, easy to read dial. At 43mm wide, the case doesn’t actually sit very large – though it does have long and nicely curved lugs so that it wears comfortably, but doesn’t look like a small watch — via A Blog to Read
