Plants that were frozen during the Little Ice Age
centuries ago have been observed sprouting new growth, scientists say.
Samples of 400-year-old plants known as bryophytes have flourished under laboratory conditions.
Researchers say this back-from-the-dead trick has implications for how ecosystems recover from the planet’s cyclic long periods of ice coverage.

In late April, a Red Wolf pup was born at the US Fish & Wildlife Service’s Red Wolf Recovery Program facility in Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, North Carolina. Born in captivity, the little female was the only surviving pup of her litter. Five seriously disabled stroke patients have shown small signs of recovery following the injection of stem cells into their brain.
Prof Keith Muir, of Glasgow University, who is treating them, says he is surprised
by the mild to moderate improvements in the five patients.
He stresses it is too soon to tell whether the effect is due to the treatment they are receiving.

I believe the purpose is to intimidate critics into silence. This is not the first time PETA has tried to do so. Many animal lovers who have publicly condemned PETA for their killing have received a letter from the PETA legal department. However, because a lawsuit would, among other things, allow for: subpoenas of PETA employees past and present; information as to where the PETA mobile van picked up animals, who it picked them up from, what they were told, who put them to death, when they were put to death, and where the bodies were discarded; the names of people and groups they’ve acquired animals from and what was said or not said to them; as well as records for all animals taken in and killed; and because a lawsuit would open PETA up to a counter-claim for chilling speech—a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation designed to silence, intimidate, or punish those who use public forums to right some wrong — I believe it is unlikely that PETA would ever follow-through with these threats — via redwolf.newsvine.com

A $6 million tourism campaign has been launched to promote the Barossa Valley as the nation’s top food and wine destination.
The advertisement features a soundtrack by Australian singer Nick Cave and will appear on television networks around Australia from 2 June 2.
There will also be a digital and print media campaign, in an effort to attract interstate visitors.
