Yahoo IPv6 upgrade could shut out 1 million Internet users

Yahoo is forging ahead with a move to IPv6 on its main Web site by year-end despite worries that up to 1 million Internet users may be unable to access it nitially.

Reset the Printing System

I encountered a problem recently where Word would not save, and Photoshop and other applications would not launch after an upgrade to 10.6 from 10.4.

Essentially what I needed to do was reset the printing system. While this was easily achieved in 10.5/10.4 it’s not so easy in 10.6 especially when CUPS would not launch — via Mac OS X Hints

Apple’s iPhones to be mobile WiFi hotspots

Interesting things are close at hand for iPhone and iPad owners.

Due soon is a new version of Apple’s iOS operating software that will, among other things, enable most iPhones to operate as mobile WiFi hotspots.

Dating site creates profiles from public records

Online dating company Gotham Dating Partners has announced plans to create profiles for non-registered individuals based on publicly available information on social networking sites.

The company operates several dating sites, including: Dons and Divas, Faithful Lover, Marry Me First, Prison Hookup, and Ugly People Date. Incorporated in New York in January 2010 by Aaron Fraser, it is the parent of online footwear startup LeBron Jordan, which came under fire from Nike this month for potential trademark infringement — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Wikileaks volunteer detained and searched (again) by US agents

Jacob Appelbaum, a security researcher, Tor developer, and volunteer with WikiLeaks, reported today on his Twitter feed that he was detained, searched, and questioned by the US Customs and Border Patrol agents at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on January 10, upon re-entering the US after a vacation in Iceland.
