Queen + Michael Jackson Duet Coming

Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed that a duet featuring Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson will be released as a new Queen record in 2012.

May told London’s Evening Standard that the song was recorded at Michael Jackson’s house in the late 80s. Michael used to come and see us when we were on tour in the States. He and Freddie became close friends, close enough to record a couple of tracks together at Michael’s house, tracks which have never seen the light of day, he told the newspaper.

He also confirmed that the Jackson estate have approved the release — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Looking back at The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension

The real delight of Buckaroo Banzai is its incomprehensibility. Unlike the incomprehensibility of movies like John Boorman’s Zardoz, or even 2001: A Space Odyssey, which tend to alienates audiences, the name of the game in Banzai is fun, particularly if you’re into comics, sci-fi, and rock n’ roll (read: ardent readers of this website). It’s always a step ahead of the audience, with another trick up its sleeve, or some dangling plot thread that promises more. There’s enough backstory here to provide the plot for several lesser films.

Juggalos classified as a gang in FBI report

Fans of notorious US hip-hop group Insane Clown Posse have been officially classified as a gang. A new FBI document has categorised the Juggalos as a “loosely-organised hybrid gang,” citing the group’s violence, criminal activity and “gang-like behaviour”.

Fans of the Insane Clown Posse have called themselves Juggalos for more than two decades, developing a reputation for face-paint, Faygo soda, and a scepticism toward magnets. Although based in the United States — the ICP are from Michigan — it has become a worldwide movement; a UK Facebook group has more than 600 members.

Unfortunately for harmless fans of horrorcore rap, Juggalos are now officially of concern to law enforcement, according to the FBI’s 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment report [PDF]. Juggalos have been tied to a string of recent crimes, including a shooting in January and the assault of a homeless man last year. Open source reporting suggests that a small number of Juggalos are forming more organised subsets and engaging in more gang-like criminal activity, the report alleges. Transient, criminal Juggalo groups pose a threat to communities due to the potential for violence, drug use/sales, and their general destructive and violent nature — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Doris Day wins LA Film Critics prize

Veteran actress and singer Doris Day has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the LA Film Critics Association (LAFCA).

The organisation’s president, Brent Simon, described Day as the biggest female star of the 1960s.

Doris Day is still arguably the template to which Hollywood turns when trying to quantify and capture ‘girl next door’ appeal, he added — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Rob Ford denies calling 911 dispatcher names

Ford’s comments concern 911 calls he made Monday after Mary Walsh, part of the CBC-TV comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes, ambushed him in his driveway as the character Marg Delahunty, with cameras rolling.

First they said they weren’t on my property. They were at my car, they were holding me. My daughter was just inside the door. You know, put yourself in my shoes, Ford said.

The mayor was responding to a CBC News report that quoted multiple sources who claimed Ford turned on the dispatcher who took one of the calls and said: You … bitches! Don’t you fucking know? I’m Rob fucking Ford, the mayor of this city! — via redwolf.newsvine.com
