Creative Letterheads

You’ll never receive a letter from Andy Warhol, Ray Charles, Albert Einstein or Harry Houdini, but you can still get a peek at what their letterhead looks like — and the designs can be quite revealing. These 17 letterhead designers from architects, musicians, artists, performers, inventors and other public figures range from the humble and minimalistic to the boastful and colourful — via WebUrbanist

1970 Harley FLH / Walt Siegl

The FX Roadster started out as a beat-up 1970 Harley FLH. I always liked the look of the shovelhead engine. And the aftermarket offers so many good choices for updated mechanicals — you can build a really strong motor/transmission combo. So Walt Siegl enlisted Andrew Rosa of Rosa’s Cycleson Long Island to rebuild the engine and transmission — via Bike EXIF

Yamaha XS650 / Mule Motorcycles

Richard Pollock knows a thing or two about street-trackers. Doing business as Mule Motorcycles out of a converted two-car garage in suburban San Diego, he’s built about 100 trackers to date, and shows no signs of slowing down. Pollock’s bread and butter are specials based on two powerplants: Harley-Davidson’s Evo Sportster V-twin and Yamaha’s venerable XS650, the so-called Japanese Bonneville and about as good an air-cooled parallel-twin as anybody has ever made. Mule’s latest build is an XS650 with a difference. Strictly speaking it’s not a street-tracker; there are touches of café-racer mixed in. Let’s call it, then, a café-tracker — via Bike EXIF

Arche Nebra / Holzer Kobler Architekturen

An architectural competition was launched to design a public archaeological centre and an observation tower that would showcase the disc and come to symbolise the region. Holzer Kobler Architekturen chose the symbol of the solar barge for the construction of the centre. Visible from far away, the body of the building is covered with yellow anodised aluminium and appears to float above the glass-encased entry level, in which the admission desk and café are located. The 60-metre-long abstracted ship houses two exhibition rooms and the planetarium — via ArchDaily

Lake Lugano House / JM Architecture

Lying on the slope of a hill, on the shores of Lake Lugano, the villa [JM Architecture] consists of two volumes organized on different levels due to the particular topography of the site.

A polygonal shaped glass pavilion with rounded edges stands above a linear underground block. The living and dining room, the kitchen and storage spaces are located in the pavilion, while bedrooms, bathrooms and garage are in the lower level. Each level relates itself with independent outdoor spaces, which are closely related with the interiors — via ArchDaily

Tinta / Ochs Und Junior

The Ochs Und Junior Tinta is a fascinating marriage of form and function that offers a set of very cool features in a very cool package. Around the edge you have dots for the current date, starting at the double dot at about 12:01. This is set as you would a normal date setting. Then you have a standard set of hands with a sweep second hand to tell the time. Finally you have the real draw — an accurate moonphase register that uses a set of rotating disks attached to an ETA 2824 movement — via Wrist Watch Review

Top Gun Miramar Pilot / IWC

The IWC Top Gun Miramar watch is a tribute to the place in California where the myth of the elite pilot was born. This watch features a sleek looking dark grey 48mm ceramic case and a somewhat vintage-military colour set, including the green textile strap — via Perpetuelle

Ty’r Graig Castle / Barmouth

Fancy a go at the hotel trade? This 11 bedroom art deco-style hotel in Barmouth, Gwynedd, North Wales might be for you.

It actually dates back to 1892, when it was built as a home for a wealthy businessman (a famous gunmaker), but the look now dates back to the ’40s, which is where the deco-style exterior perhaps comes from.

More details on the listing. If you fancy it, the asking price is £770,000 — via WowHaus

Basque Culinary Centre / VAUMM

The new building [VAUMM] that houses Basque Culinary Centre the head-office is located in a tangential site to the Miramon Technologic Business Park. This condition of proximity with the very steep slope of the site assumes the start point of this architectonic proposal — via ArchDaily

King Power Unico GMT / Hublot

Hublot unveiled a sneak preview of the King Power Unico GMT watch, set to debut in January 2012. This watch not only features one of Hublot’s new in-house movements (its Unico series), but it also an interesting, though somewhat confusing, manner of showing 24 timezones on the dial — via Perpetuelle

SNDA65 / Seiko

The SNDA65 has the same movement inside of it that the SNDC47 contains. You drop the bezel, and pick up the Flieger-style arrowhead at the twelve o’clock position. You also get a bump in case size (to 42mm wide and 12mm thick), which also appears to have a black coating of some sort applied. Thankfully, that beautiful hardlex crystal made the migration to this model, as did the 100 meter water resistance rating — via Wrist Watch Review
