My pal, Becky, who’s a fellow instructor at the Stitch Lab here in Austin whipped up this adorable crochet window pane scarf over the holiday and is sharing the pattern on her blog. I love that it’s warm and cozy enough for the chill we’ve been experiencing here this weekend, but also still open enough that it can accommodate the rest of the Texas winter

The congregation at Vira First Methodist is very excited to be putting on the Christmas Pageant this year with their new actors. For the first time in 15 years they will finally have a live squidlin to play the part of Baby Jesus. No more plastic baby dolls for them! Kenny is a lovely squidlin and seems to know his role is very important. He hasn’t made a peep except to coo during appropriate times in rehearsals. Please join VFM December 24th at 7pm for the Christmas Pageant and candle light service. Desserts and coffee to follow in the newly refurbished basement! — via Etsy
My mother collects rocking horses. She tries to get at least one each year for Christmas. This year, she couldn’t find anything she liked in the stores, so I made her one out of brass stock I had lying around.
I did a little CAD drawing to help myself visualize what it would look like. You might find it useful. There are very few dimensions, but you can still use it as a guide to bending the stock. The drawing is 1:1, so if you print out the PDF, you can just lay the bent metal on the paper to check the contour — via CRAFT
Interweave Knits contributor TECHknitter has come up with a wonderful way to knit in zippers. You read it right—Knit. In. Zippers. She’s amazing — via Knitting Daily

Author and designer Shirley Paden has made a new video for you, all about choosing stitch patterns. Shirley’s book is Knitwear Design Workshop, and it’s a fabulous resource for anyone interested in knitwear design, making modifications to existing patterns, and knitting in general. You’ll be so inspired! I know I was — via Knitting Daily
Alexandra of Moonstitches put up a pattern for making this cute little owl. I think I’d like to have a parliament of owls lined up on the windowsill over my kitchen sink — via CRAFT
I’m digging these woven computer icons by Micah Schippa, cast under the title tools at hand

We settled down at a table and I started out by showing Susan Eunny’s video. Then I demonstrated the process on the swatches I made—working the seam with the contrasting color makes the process really easy to see.
I had Susan practice on the swatches until she had the process down. She couldn’t believe how easy it was! — via Knitting Daily
Youtube user correx37 made this homemade knitting machine using old printer parts, two servos and a Picaxe-18x microcontroller. I love the simplicity and re-use of components. That slow, deliberate action could easily lull me in to a deep sleep… and when I woke up, I’d have a freshly-made scarf — via MAKE
My boys (husband included, but especially the boys!) are obsessed with the game Angry Birds. They like the game, but they really like to play a real life version they invented, where they chuck objects at each other. (Don’t worry! They use safe projectiles for this!) I want to make their game a little more fun for them, so I am creating some Angry Birds and pigs for them to play with — via Obsessively Stitching
To make a bowl out of melted army men, it’s very important to get good quality soldiers. Generic ones can sometimes turn black in the over, so make sure you test out one of your army men before beginning your bowl — via Associated Content
This Noro Hat pattern is an oldie but a goodie by Saartje de Bruijn. I whipped one up this weekend as the temperatures in NYC started to drop. It’s an easy pattern with alternating sections of knit and purl stitches, resulting in a cartoonish frozen yogurt-looking ripple texture. So warm! — via CRAFT
Sometimes it gets so busy around Santa’s workshop that the new guy scarcely gets noticed. A quick background check would have found this new elf on a list of the VERY naughty. Woe be to his supervisor when he summons him once too often for menial chores. A coworker thinks she overheard him softly singing, It’s beginning to look a lot like End Times…
The Cthulhu Elf is an original work of art, a one-of-a-kind figure sculpted from epoxy clay over a wire armature and then painted with acrylics. He stands about 6 1/2 inches tall — via Etsy
The octopus represents wisdom, creativity, will, strength, and focus. This beautiful golden octopus circle pendant hangs from a strong chain and creates a unique necklace-perfect for any age — via Etsy
Knitter Tara Wheeler has whipped up these wonderful TARDIS socks:
“I knitted up a pair of these a few years ago and they’ve gotten lots of complements.
I’ve finally written up my pattern, which pre-supposes you know how to knit socks.”

You can wear this cute never-ending elliptical scarflette in a number of way – wrapped twice around your neck to keep out the chill. Looped loosely as a cute accessory, or worn casually over the shoulders — via whip up
Jimmy McBride makes these completely incredible intergalactic quilts. He writes:
they say in space,
no one can hear you scream. well, they can’t hear the low drone of the internal power generators kick on again when you’re half way to nowhere. i can. i work for a shipping company calledintergalactic transport. i travel back and forth from rock to rock carrying those two all important gems- salt and vinegar. there’s a lot of time to kill up here so i downloaded a grandma program and she’s been teaching me how to quilt. there’s no “log cabins” or “poinsettias” around so i just stare out the window until something catches my eye.
