Hexagonal Pewter Stool from Max Lamb
Inspired by a childhood spent on the beaches of Cornwall building castles, boats and tunnels in the sand, I decided to return to my favourite beach at Caerhays on the south coast of Cornwall to produce a stool using a primitive form of sand-casting. Molten pewter was poured into a sand mould sculpted directly into the beach by hand, and once cooled the sand was dug away to reveal a pewter stool — via Vimeo

While the clay way drying, a slimy, gross, tentacled monster slithered up from the deep and attempted kidnap! Using the magical freezing fire power of my kiln, I was able to save this poor, innocent bowl from the ravages of the sea monster. The figure, stand, table top, stool and sewing machine are made out of Philippine mahogany while the gears are carved from Narra hardwood. The table legs and pedal are made of copper wire. The figures are painted with enamel and protected with a clear lacquer. Bumblesweet sits at 5 1/4″ high while the whole piece measures 6 1/2″ long, 3 3/4″ wide and 8 1/8″ high. I get asked a lot about real gauge earrings~ I do make them! If you’re between a 2 and 00 you can order a pair of my custom fake gauges, then specify that you need real gauges and what size you need.
