Twas 1975, and the Claus family needed a workshop designed. Enter Don Reeves, an Emeritus member of AIA San Diego, who may have been almost 40 at the time but, deep down, he was a kid at heart with a twinkle in his eye. Don figured that the best kind of client is jolly, generous, and also has an appreciation for good design and craftsmanship. Someone like, well, Santa Claus!

Rather than send out some nice architectural drawing for our holiday greeting to business friends and family, let’s do a working drawing of Santa’s workshop! Take the next 45 minutes or so, and have at it! Well, four days later, a sticker board was prominently featured in the office, and it became very clear that they’d done it – designed a terrific workshop for Mr and Mrs S Claus.
