Discord / morisato54

For the spirit of chaos and disharmony, Discord sure looks tranquil in the shower. A good hot soak combined with a good back scrub is undeniably relaxing after all and it seems he also relieves excess tension by belting out his favourite songs, behind the seclusion of bathroom tiles at least. Or maybe it’s from being granted freedom and making new friends after a long, long time of seclusion?

Discord, the bathtub, and stand are carved from Philippine mahogany while Discord’s horns and goatee, the gears, scrub brush, and shower are made of narra hardwood. They’re hand painted in enamel with a protective flat lacquer top coat. Discord sits up at 7″ high while the entire piece measures 13″ high, 4″ wide, and 11″ long. It took 155 1/4 hours to complete — via Youtube

Obituary: Lauren Bacall

Lauren Bacall, the sultry actress with the husky voice who captured Humphrey Bogart’s heart both on and off the movie screen, has died at the age of 89.

Bacall suffered a massive stroke at her New York home on Tuesday morning (local time), a family member said.

Bacall was married to Bogart from 1945 until his death in 1957.

They appeared together in several films, including The Big Sleep (1946) and Key Largo (1948).

She was born Betty Joan Perske on 16 September 1924, in New York City, the only child of immigrant parents.

After her parents’ divorce, she adopted a variation of her mother’s maiden name, Bacal.

The public knew her as Lauren, the screen name hung on her by director Howard Hawks, while friends called her Betty.

Bogart simply called her Baby, in a love story that ended prematurely with his death from throat cancer at the age of 57 — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Brian Blessed: I turned down Doctor Who

Veteran actor Brian Blessed has said he turned down an opportunity to take the lead role in the BBC’s Doctor Who because he was too busy.

The 77-year-old, famed for his booming delivery, said he was offered the role in the early years of his acting career, although he now says he would not hesitate in playing the Doctor.

Blessed went on to take a guest role in the programme in 1986 in a story called Mindwarp, playing the character of King Yrcanos, at a time when Colin Baker had been cast in the lead.

In an interview for Radio Times, he explained that he was approached to star in the show in the mid-1960s, suggesting he was asked to step in as a replacement for William Hartnell who launched the show, and was eventually succeeded by Patrick Troughton in 1966.

Blessed said: After I was in Z Cars, the head of BBC serials took me aside and said, We’re thinking of having a young Doctor Who and we’d like to cast you. But it clashed with other things.

Asked what his reaction would be now, he said: I’d jump at it — via redwolf.newsvine.com
