Melbourne IT to purchase Netregistry in AU$50.4m deal

Melbourne IT announced today that it has entered into an agreement with competitor Netregistry to purchase the company in a deal worth AU$50.4 million.

The payment for the purchase will be made in two parts, with 4.99 percent to 9.99 percent of outstanding Melbourne IT shares offered to Netregistry shareholders, and the remainder paid in cash. This will see Melbourne IT part with 4.3 million to 9.3 million shares and between AU$38 million to AU$45 million in cash, subject to regulatory approval.

The proposed transaction will bring together two of Australia’s leading web services businesses, generating significant benefits for customers, employees, and shareholders of both companies, said acting CEO of Melbourne IT Peter Findlay — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Cephalopod print / Inkling For Design

This specific print is a series of sorts with, The end is near. I hear a noise at the door and …as of some immense slippery body lumbering against it as my own little tribute to the great HP Lovecraft. Obituary: Harold Ramis

Actor and director Harold Ramis, best known for the films Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day, has died aged 69.

He died of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a rare disease that involves swelling of the blood vessels, his agent told the BBC.

The star found fame as bespectacled ghost-hunter Egon Spengler in the Ghostbusters franchise in 1984.

But he was also a talented writer and director, whose credits included Caddyshack and Animal House.

His creativity, compassion, intelligence, humour and spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him, said his family in a statement.

The star had reportedly been quiet about his illness, which dated back to 2010 — via redwolf.newsvine.com

Desert Breath / D.A.ST. Arteam

Located near the Red Sea in El Gouna, Egypt, Desert Breath is an impossibly immense land art installation dug into the sands of the Sahara desert by the D.A.ST. Arteam back in 1997. The artwork was a collaborative effort spanning two years between installation artist Danae Stratou, industrial designer Alexandra Stratou, and architect Stella Constantinides, and was meant as an exploration of infinity against the backdrop of the largest African desert. Covering an area of about 100,000 square metres the piece involved the displacement of 8,000 square metres of sand and the creation of a large central pool of water — via Colossal

California Cat House Renovation / Trillium Enterprises

It’s one thing to love cats, but it takes a whole new level of obsession to convert your entire home into a cat playground. If you’re going to go over the top for your felines though, you can at least do it in style. The clever remodel of this Goleta, California home shows that living in a cat-oriented home doesn’t have to have all they style you’d expect of a crazy cat lady or an animal hoarder. Trillium Enterprises did the renovation, which cost a whopping $35,000. But, when an animal lover owns 18 cats, it only makes sense that he or she is willing to do whatever it takes to make those pets comfy — via Homes and Hues
